Familiar faces from the Kingdom Hearts III franchise have been included in a campaign that aims at tackling the serious issue of teen bullying. Called Because of You, the collaboration between Square Enix and Ad Council hopes to encourage teens to reflect on their actions and how they can impact others – positively or negatively.
Earlier this week, Ad Council released their own PSA video that plays on some well-known themes in the Kingdoms Hearts franchise. The video features appearances from Sora, Donald, Goofy and plenty of other characters in the Kingdom Hearts universe. It’s definitely a heartfelt approach that helps shed light on a serious topic that can impact teens across the world.
The campaign is the first time Ad Council has partnered with a video game company to help promote a social initiative. Square Enix’s Senior Manger for Product Marketing, Brendan Docherty said: “At its core the Kingdom Hearts series is about the power of friendship and helping those in need in order to overcome darkness,
“The Kingdom Hearts story is filled with characters overcoming trials and tribulations through friends helping and supporting each other through tough times.”
According to research from Relationships Australia, almost 25% of Australia’s school students experience bullying at some point in their school life.
Despite the campaign being based in the U.S, Because of You focuses on how people can work towards an overall more inclusive and positive community – a goal that can resonate with gamers on a global scale.
If you want to tell someone how much they mean to you, Because of You allows fans to share special ‘Kindness is Key’ images with those who have impacted their life for the better.
