MC Esports is an advocate of family, community and mental health. To this end, 1/6 of the first place cash prize will be donated to a charity of the winner’s choice. MC Esports have run a number of charity events in the past such as a live stream which raised $1 000 for Beyond Blue.

This is not the first time that we’ve seen gamers use their reach to promote this cause. Late last year, Streamer Reece McDowall and Academic Daniel Johnson  spoke with Gamers Classified about the Movember Well Played Project. This was streaming event organised by the Movember Foundation which aimed to create virtual and real-life safe spaces in which to discuss men’s health. Participants were given free access to the video games Brawlhalla and Path of Exile. They could register with pre-made squads or fill out a questionnaire and be placed on a squad which matched their level of expertise. Just like the MC Esports LAN, the Well Played Project encouraged gamers to socialise around an activity which they enjoy.

The 2018 Movember Well Played Project hosted its official livestream from QUT’s Esports Arena.

In our earlier interview, Daniel Johnson explained that social gaming events (especially when organised with an emphasis on growing community ties) can be used to overcome some of the barrier people face to online gaming. Johnson said ‘you might be worried that you’re not good enough to play or you’re going to get paired up with someone who shouts abuse at you, or you don’t know people who like the same games as you. We’re trying to circumnavigate those barriers and bring people together in a really friendly space to play videogames’.

The MC Esports CS:GO LAN will bring together players and spectators of all levels who like CS:GO and provide them with an opportunity to socialise. Gamers Classifeid will the there on Saturday Feburary 2nd covering the event. If you would like to share you experience, promote yourself or just say hello, we would be happy to hear from you.
