The Steam Awards winners have been announced

The results for the Steam Awards are in and the winners have been announced.

From the shortlisted nominees announced last year, your favourite games have been voted for and decided by you. Here are your winners of the 2018 Steam Awards.

GAME OF THE YEAR
WINNER:
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS
PUBG had a huge first year in 2017, bringing battle royale into the forefront of gaming. To win a Game of the Year Award a whole year later, even after its ups and downs, is a testament to how popular it really was.
VR GAME OF THE YEAR
Skyrim is still keeping itself in our lives either years on with very special editions and now VR. Skyrim VR beat out Beat Saber and VR Chat to the VR Game of the Year.
LABOR OF LOVE
Many of the games on the nominee’s list were deserving of this title as they have some of the longest running game lives of this generation. Grand Theft Auto V ultimately took out the win over the likes of No Man’s Sky who recently had a huge comeback.
BEST DEVELOPER
WINNER:
CD PROJEKT RED
After the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red is going from strength to strength with Cyberpunk 2077 on the way sometime next year.
BEST ENVIRONMENT
Speaking of The Witcher 3, a beautiful game, certainly deserves the Best Environment award. I don’t’ know how much I would agree with the fact that the characters are overrated but Steam always likes to get specific with their awards.
BETTER WITH FRIENDS
With the recent confirmation of the Australian Operation, Burnt Horizon, Rainbow Six Siege is very deserving of this award. Similarly to other games in the category like CSGO, it is very easy to make friends in this game and if you team up with a full squad that’s where the real fun begins.
BEST ALTERNATE HISTORY
Sometimes making history is more fun than studying it and killing targets in ancient Greece won over killing Nazis and ghouls.
MOST FUN WITH A MACHINE
WINNER:
ROCKET LEAGUE®

The competitive scene for Rocket League has blown up as of late, especially in the Oceanic region so it’s no surprise that it took the title of most fun with a machine.
